At 7:50pm, on 1/3/15, Five Points along with Elsmere (16), Cranston Heights (14), and Belvedere (30) were alerted for a house fire on West Summit Avenue in the Elmhurst community. The New Castle County Fireboard (Dispatch Center) recieved multiple calls for smoke in the area, and a neighbor yelling a house is on fire. This upgraded it to a working alarm which added Mill Creek (2/21), Minquas (23), Wilmington Fire Department's Squad-1, Tower-2, & Battalion Chief-2 , Medic-7, ALS-24, and a Fire Marshall. Five Points 17-8, Chief Gene Johnson, arrived first on scene to find fire showing on the Bravo and Delta sides of the structure. Five Points Engine 17-4 arrived as the first apparatus on scene. The crew of 17-4 connected to a hydrant, and took one handline into the structure. Elsmere's Ladder-16 arrived as the second apparatus onscene, and its crew took a second handline off of 17-4 into the structure. About eight minutes into the incident a Mayday was declared for a firefighter who fell from the second story to the first story. This upgraded it to a 2nd Alarm which added Wilmington Manor (28/32), Minquadale (22), Talleyville (25), Holloway Terrace (20), Brandywine Hundred (11), Medic-2, ALS-13, and Delaware State Police Trooper-4. Within a minute the mayday was cleared, as the firefighter was okay. This sent Minquadale's 22-2 and Talleyville's 25-7 to Five Points to cover the district, and cleared the other fire units responding. Crews from multiple companies worked together for about 70 minutes to get the fire under control. Units cleared the scene around 10:30pm. The fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshall’s office. Thank you to Five Points Ladies Auxiliary for coming out to provide beverages to the working personnel.
